Danesfield Church of England School Living and Learning Together

Physical Education

“We get to do lots of different sports at Danesfield. I’m always really happy in PE lessons as I love being outside. We get to have fun and play games. Every lesson is different.” Year 6 pupil

During their time at Danesfield, we want to inspire pupils to participate and enjoy physical activity. We feel it is vital for pupils to understand the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle, whilst developing the confidence to continue these beliefs independently. We hope to lay the foundations for pupils to start a life-long journey into engaging with sport and physical recreation.

In both KS2 and KS3, pupils receive two hours of timetabled PE every week. Pupils experience a vast curriculum covering rugby, hockey, netball, football, gymnastics, dance, multi-skills, leadership and outdoor adventurous activity, health related fitness, basketball, athletics, cricket, rounders, softball and tennis. Within KS2, pupils will also experience swimming and Real PE.

We offer an extensive extra-curricular programme covering traditional and non-traditional sports depending on the term. Many of these clubs involve the opportunity for pupils to participate in festivals and competitions in the area and county. All pupils will have the opportunity to participate in a range of inter-house competitions.

Most importantly, we want PE at Danesfield to enhance children’s cognitive, physical and character development, and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
