Drama at Danesfield enables students to build their development/rehearsal skills, performance skills and evaluation skills. Drama is not just a subject, it is a creative outlet and a learning tool. Students are able to gain confidence, resilience and problem solving skills, as well as learning to work collaboratively with others. Drama can be used to explore a range of human emotions and a wide spectrum of social situations and moral dilemmas. We also frequently use drama to explore topics that appear in the PSHE curriculum in more depth.

The KS3 drama curriculum will allow students to access GCSE drama/theatre studies or performing arts courses if they choose to. The curriculum builds physical, vocal, communication, ensemble and creative skills. It is designed to implement understanding of character, plot building and theatre styles and is tiered so students progress from year 7 to year 8 into the more demanding aspects of the subject. All students are required to give constructive feedback on the performances of others and continually self-assess their own work, particularly during the development and rehearsal stages of their work. Additionally, a number of our children at Danesfield participate in drama outside of school through amateur dramatic societies, and/or participate in our school show, which the KS3 curriculum also supports them with.
