Danesfield Church of England School Living and Learning Together

Music

“My music lessons have inspired me to get my own piano and now I can keep learning at home!” Year 5 pupil

Throughout KS2 and KS3 music at Danesfield, students are able to express their creativity through composing music, drawing on a wide range of musical structures, styles, genres and traditions. Students have the opportunity to perform in solo and ensemble contexts through use of their voices and through playing instruments. Students listen to a wide variety of music from great composers and musicians and are taught to use staff and other relevant notations appropriately and accurately in a range of musical styles, genres and traditions.

These skills are developed through engaging and creative practical lessons that also encourage students to develop their self-confidence and teamwork.

There are opportunities for students to be assessed both in their practical application of skills as well as listening assessments to ensure that they have a well-rounded skill set suitable for progression to GCSE music.

Mutual respect is at the heart of every music lesson, and students are able to experiment and express themselves in a positive learning environment, where everyone is supported, listened to and valued.

Most importantly, the music curriculum provides students with a skill set of confidence, creativity, teamwork and mutual respect which will empower them in other classrooms and in the wider world.
