During their time at DMS, we aim for all children to become confident speakers, creative writers and fluent readers.
Lessons will deliver varied opportunities for children to write for both purpose and pleasure; a skill which will improve with their evolving knowledge of grammar and extended vocabulary.
Children will be taught an appreciation of reading by reading from a wide range of fiction and non-fiction genres and by discussing their understanding with reference to their developing skills of inference and deduction.
Pupils will be encouraged to speak confidently and effectively using standard English in a range of contexts including expressing ideas, speeches, discussions and presentations where they will be taught to use intonation, tone and volume for impact.
Most importantly, we want English at DMS to unlock children’s learning across the curriculum and widen their life-long chances.
