Over the course of one term, one of our year 7 classes researched NFTs, exploring what makes art valuable. The group explored how traditional art is bought and sold, before taking on different roles in a ‘mock auction’ and finding our more about how certain artworks may rise and fall in value. The group then applied this thinking to NFTs and discussed the pros and cons of this new way of buying and selling artworks. The students then became East Quay’s digital curators, proposing ideas for a show, choosing the theme of ‘Space’ and then working with a set budget to select NFTs that would reflect on this theme. “Let’s create a cool environment that will give understanding to the NFT.’”
They learnt about curating the exhibition such as what goes into the planning and production of an exhibition. They were introduced to different ways of displaying artworks, as well as various modes of presenting the accompanying text. Using floor plans and drawings, the pupils illustrated their own ideas for curating the chosen NFT artworks.
“We wanted to create an exhibition that is wonderful, colourful and overall, just out of this world.”
We're so proud of our fabulous teams who successfully completed the Exmoor Youth Challenge this weekend: following an unmarked 16-mile route over moorland with great map-reading & compass skills.
Thanks to Rotary Club of Exmoor for organising this successful event.
This week at Danesfield we had our very first Multi-Faith Festival. The children had a great time considering a variety of spiritual questions. There were stations focusing on our own journeys in life, on our impact on the planet and environment, on the beauty of the natural world and on celebrations. The school was jubilant with singing and dancing and a wonderful atmosphere was experienced by all. Many thanks to all of the staff who supported the children and especially to our community volunteers for helping to organise such a joyful event.
Having won a nationwide competition for schools run by Sports Directory (PE equipment supplier) and Canterbury (worldwide rugby brand), students at Danesfield were treated to a visit by Exeter Chiefs rugby player, Jodie Ounsley, who also stars in the TV show Gladiators as ‘Fury’. During the visit, Jodie helped run a rugby coaching session where students wore ear defenders to develop an empathetic understanding of playing sports with a hearing impairment. She then hosted an inspirational assembly and insightful Q&A session where she shared her personal journey, encouraging students to chase their dreams with resilience, no matter what challenges they face.
Jodie ‘Fury’ said, ‘Meeting these children today has been so much fun, it's been heart-warming to share in their excitement. I'm honoured to share my journey with them and hopefully empower them to embrace their own unique abilities. It's important they know that anything is possible, regardless of any perceived limitations.’ PE teacher, Steve Ladd, said, ‘Today has been extraordinary for our students. It's been a rare and remarkable chance for them to be inspired by a true icon in the world of rugby and sport. Jodie was amazing with everyone, sharing her time, insights, and invaluable experiences with our students, leaving an indelible impact. I'm confident that our school community, especially our budding rugby players, will leave today's event brimming with joy and inspiration.’
