Danesfield Church of England School Living and Learning Together

5SCL

Welcome to 5SC

It's been a busy start to the autumn term for 5SC and their first year at Danesfield but I'm pleased to report that they are all settling in fantastically! The main faces in the classroom will be myself (Miss Clayton) and Mr Speers with pupils also receiving specialist teaching in Music, French, Food Technology, I.T, and P.E.

If you have queries or questions please feel free to contact me directly via my school email (which you will find written in your children's school diaries) Alternatively contact me through the school main reception.

Don't forget we are hosting a Maths Inspire morning on Friday 30th September where I would love to see as many of you as possible.

Spelling

This week's spelling words:

build

business

calendar

Please make sure you practise your spellings throughout the week, paying particular attention to those you struggled with in the cold test. Try writing silly sentences/paragraphs including as many of the words as you can! OR using different fonts to write out your spellings.

Remember our spelling lesson is on a Wednesday.

English

In English we will be reading Journey to Jo'burg. We started off as reading detectives, working out what linked pictures of Nelson Mandela, maps of South Africa and some very juicy oranges! We will be looking at how apartheid law affected those living in South Africa and use our Rights Respecting School's values to compare the lives of Naledi and Tiro to our own.

The Solar System

This half term in science we are learning about the solar system. We waited for a sunny day to go outside and use fruit to represent the planets and measured the distance between them - Mercury was represented by a peppercorn whilst Jupiter was a watermelon! 5SC have used the solar system rap to learn the order of the planets, alongside some very interesting facts!
