Danesfield Church of England School Living and Learning Together

PE & Sports Grant Funding

At Danesfield School we recognise that physical education (PE) and sports play a pivotal role in fostering active and healthy lives among children and young people. Our goal is to provide the foundation for positive, enjoyable, and regular participation in physical activity, setting our pupils on the path to a healthy lifestyle. Through our PE and Sport Grant Funding, we continue to create an environment where our pupils can thrive, develop their skills, and explore the full potential of sport and physical activity. We welcome our community to join us on this exciting and health-focused journey.

What is the Sports Premium?

Most of our funding for PE and sport comes from the PE and Sport Premium Grant, which is based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6. This crucial funding helps us to:

  • Develop or extend the PE and sport activities that we already offer
  • Build capacity and capability to ensure that current improvements will benefit future generations of pupils

We use this funding in alignment with five key indicators of improvement:

  1. Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
  2. Raising the profile of PE and sport as a tool for whole-school improvement
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge, and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport

DfE states that Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.

For example, you can use your funding to:

  • hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers
  • provide existing staff with training or resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively
  • introduce new sports or activities and encourage more pupils to take up sport
  • support and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs, holiday clubs and Change4Life clubs
  • run sport competitions
  • increase pupils’ participation in the School Games
  • run sports activities with other schools

You should not use your funding to:

  • employ coaches or specialist teachers to cover planning preparation and assessment (PPA) arrangements - these should come out of your core staffing budgets
  • teach the minimum requirements of the national curriculum - including those specified for swimming (or, in the case of academies and free schools, to teach your existing PE curriculum).
