WATERSPORT

What happens – Children travel to the C.O.A.C.H. centre on the River Tone in Taunton. In this purpose built building children venture on paddleboards and kayaks, on a designated section of the river. Wearing buoyancy aids, helmets and wetsuits (that can be borrowed from the centre) children will enter the water under the close watch of experienced instructors. Participating in games and challenges pupils attempt to build upon existing skills, or attempt to stay afloat. Fun is almost guaranteed; so is the chance of ending up wetter than when you started. No previous experience is required. Although children do need to be competent swimmers (able to swim at least 50m).

Pupil endorsements: “I loved the stand-up-paddle-boarding, and getting wet… it was really fun!” from a Year 5 pupil.

What equipment – Children to take a swimming costume, or a wetsuit if they have one – wetsuits are provided as part of the price. Children must wear trainers (or neoprene hardsoled footwear), ideally a pair that they can get wet!
