Survival
A study of fiction and non fiction texts and extracts themed around survival
In this unit, year 8 pupils apply their skills and knowledge gained from the war and conflict unit in Autumn 1 and develop them further. The theme of survival links text extracts such as Tom Sawyer and Life of Pi to non fiction extracts such as Bear Grylls' diaries and survival guides. There is a large emphasis on developing pupils' creative writing skills during this unit, using many of the settings from the texts as the basis for their own narrative.
