CAVING

What happens - Children embark on a fun caving experience in Goathurst Caven in Burrington Combe, near Cheddar. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the challenge of manoeuvring through a series of passageways and some (optional) tight squeezes. All caving sessions are led by an experienced and highly qualified instructor from CaveClimb. No previous experience of caving is needed. All children are initially nervous if they have not caved before. However, after just a short time they gain in confidence when they realise how capable they are. After 2 hours underground pupils can relax and contemplate over a freshly cooked meal from the local fish and chip shop.

Pupil endorsements: “I was really nervous at first as I’ve never been caving before… after 10 minutes I realised how much fun it was and I was really proud of myself… I’m going again next time with a friend!” Year 8 pupil

What equipmentChildren need to wear easy-fitting and comfortable clothing and wellies. If children do not own wellies these can be borrowed on the day (providing sizes are given at least a day in advance).
